I had my knee replaced on January 7, 2016, and I was petrified. I kept thinking, “What, am I crazy?” But two weeks after the surgery, I was walking better than I had been for the past few years. While I was not expecting to do stunts and tumbling right away, I had no idea that I could walk without pain. My other knee is in need of replacement and in a few months, after my new knee is 100%, I will do it. I’m not going to kid around, it hurts plenty for the first few weeks. Since everybody has different levels of pain, you have to control your own dosage of pain medicine, which is the worst part of the whole process. But here it is, two months later and I am relatively pain free, able to walk, and am so glad I went for it. Dr. Ran Schwarzkopf and his staff are truly amazing. If I emailed a question, he responded immediately. He’s a superb doctor using modern surgical techniques, but responsive and caring the way doctors used to be. NYU Langone and the Hospital for Joint Diseases were great. And had a full range of services from the hospital and Visiting Nurse of NYC—from physical to occupational therapy, nurses, and home care aides if needed/wanted. And I was assigned a special Nurse Advocate from NYU Langone, with whom I spoke daily and could reach any time day or night. I had a wonderful experience and urge you to bite the bullet and improve your life!

Pamela Vassil, grateful patient
